Race Re-cap: Team Awesome/Jeni’s Ice Cream cycling team’s race makes smashing debut!
I hope we proved that Lobdell Reserve can be more than a dirt criterium.
Securing the venue and the course design would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of
Kyle Wingler, Thank you! Also thanks to course designers/ race day volunteers Brian Hammond and
Jason Mccoy, who added valuable input. Thanks Andy Johnson who had to deal with double-teaming phone
calls all week long from Mason and I. Many, many thanks to all the friends that took a day out of
their lives volunteering in support of our team, our series, and our sport on a surprisingly damp
chilly afternoon.
Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU to our very generous sponsors whose prizes brightened the day and made smiles even wider when festivities and racing concluded:
JENI’S ICE CREAM for leaving no podium racer unrewarded, let’s hope they ride off the calories though.
B1 BICYCLES for a heaping helping of bicycle product love. First year owner Casey Kearnes provided over $200 dollars in gift cards/merchandise. Visit his shop downtown or go to his website, he loves talking bicycles and helping people who love them.
WESTERVILLE BICYCLES also donated great prizes too. Kurt Lehmkuhl has assisted us throughout the year and came through aces for our race, thanks Kurt.
CREMA CAFÉ provided the incredible hot coffee that you may have smelled brewing near registration. I know it helped our volunteers stay warm and alert. The coffee also made the interior of my truck smell a whole lot better via its transport to the race. CREMA CAFÉ is an excellent coffee shop down in Grove City. If you are ever in the area visit, you won’t be disappointed. Kevin Cash, the owner is a class act and a genuine nice guy and brews a mean cup. He also provided some great prizes, like the fancy coffee press that some lucky racer brewed his morning after the race coffee in.
TIP TOP KITCHEN AND COCKTAILS also pitched in with some gift certificates. They serve up great comfort food, a perfect place to grab a post cross season meal. A great patio on the redesigned bike friendly Gay Street makes it a great warm weather happy hour hang out as well.
Thanks also to Michelle of prettypatti.net for donating one of her custom designed t-shirts. You’ve seen her work before and have seen it all season long because she’s the one that did our nifty Team Awesome cycling kits.
A very final thanks to the racers who have supported not only our race but the CAPCITYCROSS cyclocross series. We had a blast!
